By December 2016, the EU has to decide whether it will grant China the Market Economy Status (MES). This decision will have a large impact on China’s relations with the European Union and its member states for years to come.
In a recent paper, Prof. François Godement argues that the EU should concede MES to China and balance this symbolic decision with a much more decisive and necessary reform of its trade defence instruments. The European Council on Foreign Relations invites you to an in-depth discussion with Prof. Godement to address the way forward and to debate the consequences this decision would have on EU-China relations.
This discussion will take place on 15th November 2016 between 14:00 and 16:00 at the European Parliament in Brussels (Room ASP1E3).
The presentation by François Godement, director of ECFR Asia & China programme will be hosted by MEP Marietje Schaake (ALDE).
A discussion opened to all participants will follow.
