Marietje Schaake discussing the role of the EU in fostering global justice

On October 24, Marietje Schaake participated in a panel debate with Dutch Members of the European Parliament to discuss the role of the EU in fostering global justice. From the website of The Hague Institute for Global Justice: Whether in the prevention of conflicts or during international climate negotiations, the European Union (EU) is often perceived as unable to assert its expected influence in critical international events. However, as the world's largest humanitarian and development donor, the EU has powerful tools at its disposal to promote good global governance. In particular, as Europe has been going through the process of change of leadership, the Parliament has a critical role to play in this respect. The Hague Institute hosted a timely and exciting debate investigating the EU’s twin mandate of protecting its constituents' interests while also 'contributing to peace, security and the sustainable development of the Earth' in accordance with the EU treaties. The event was an open and informal debate with Judith Sargentini, Member of the European Parliament for GroenLinks, and Marietje Schaake, Member of the European Parliament for D66. The debate was moderated by Chris Burns, Euronews talk show host and Media Director at Friends of Europe. A Q&A with the audience followed. Listen to the debate:
