Member of European Parliament Marietje Schaake (ALDE/D66) responds to the outlines of a deal between the P5+1 and Iran that were announced this evening.
'I welcome the historic steps that were announced this evening. However, hard work remains to be done in order to work out details that should lead to mutual trust that Iran will not pursue the development of a nuclear weapon, and that Europe, the US and the international community will lift sanctions.'
'Congratulations go to Federica Mogherini and Catherine Ashton, who represented the EU in these historic and challenging negotiations. I believe Europe must seize this moment to work on other important issues on our agenda, such as countering terrorism in the Middle-East, and the human rights of the Iranian people.'
