Net Neutrality: EU v. US – Who will get it right?

23 March 2015, 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm The Centre, Rue du Trône 4, 2nd Floor Internet is the new utility service, and the fuel of innovation globally. It’s no surprise that the rules controlling broadband networks are moving from the margins to the spotlight of public debate. Yet while “Net Neutrality” is becoming the debate we all have to have, most people don’t know what it is, and the people who do can’t even agree on the definition. There’s now two major face-offs: 1) Between the US and EU models and 2) between the tech and telecoms sectors. Questions to be asked: Which is better: strict net neutrality, flexible rules or no rules? Who is going to win this battle?  And are users going to get trampled in the process? Speakers include:
  • Erik Stallman, Director, Open Internet Project, Centre for Democracy and Technology (CDT)
  • Marietje Schaake MEP, Member of the European Parliament
  • Gigi B. Sohn, Counselor to the Chairman, Federal Communications Commission (FCC), U.S.
Moderation by Ryan Heath, Director of The Centre. The debate will be followed by a networking reception. More information and registration.
