Netanyahu in Brussels today: Marietje Schaake responds

Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu will today meet the European ministers of Foreign Affairs in Brussels. Last week, President Trump decided to unilaterally declare Jerusalem the capital of Israel and to move the American embassy there. Member of the European Parliament Marietje Schaake (D66/ALDE) responds to the latest developments:

"With his decision, Trump has personally lit a match under an already fragile situation. Netanyahu's comments in Paris yesterday sought to further exacerbated these tensions. Europe now has to make every effort to prevent further escalation. For example by coming up with new diplomatic initiatives."

"The European Union position is clear: the two state solution with Jerusalem as the capital of both Israel and a Palestinian state is the only solution to the crisis. We need to remain unified in reiterating this position loud and clear. It is essential that talks between both parties resume as soon as possible.”
