3 March 2011 E-002029/2011   Question for written answer to the Commission Rule 117 Marietje Schaake (ALDE)  Subject: VP/HR — Immediate suspension of Libya's membership of the UN Human Rights Council Does the High Representative agree that Libya’s already highly disputed membership of the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) has become unacceptable, particularly in light of the excessive use of (lethal) force against peaceful protestors(1), and Libya’s membership should be immediately suspended pursuant to Article 8 of Resolution 60/251, whether during an emergency session of the UNHRC or during the 16th session of the UNHRC in Geneva? If not, why not? Will the High Representative actively take the lead in formulating and expressing an EU common position in the UNHRC demanding the immediate suspension of Libya’s membership of the UNHRC? If not, why not? Will the High Representative take the lead in formulating and expressing an EU common position vis-à-vis the UNHRC, with the goal of preventing human rights violators from being able to represent UN human rights bodies, which is undermining the credibility and effectiveness of the United Nations as a whole? If not, why not?
