Pleased with final step to end roaming charges

Press release

Today the European Parliament took a final step in order to end roaming charges. The Parliament voted to lower the caps for wholesale roaming data charges.

Member of the European Parliament Marietje Schaake (D66/ALDE): "For over a decade, the Parliament has continuously been working on reducing the unnecessary roaming charges within the EU. Today’s agreement is the final piece of the puzzle we needed to end roaming charges once and for all. A victory for European consumers."

As of June 15, European consumers will pay the same price for calls, texts, and online data whenever they travel within the EU. Schaake: "A breakthrough. The Parliament will monitor providers very closely to make sure they will not end up charging customers in some other way. Protecting the interests of consumers is our main priority."

The regulation will be adopted by the Council at the latest in May.
