Schaake happy with outcome copyright vote

Press release

The European Parliament decided today to not enter the negotiations with the Council to reform the EU´s copyright rules. Schaake is pleased with the outcome of the vote.

Schaake (D66/ALDE): “Thousands of Dutch citizens expressed their concern to me about the current proposals. Now we have a chance to remove these concerns, and create copyright rules that are fit for our digital society. There is much at stake here, which was demonstrated by the fierce lobbying from both sides. I am looking forward to find solutions that allow journalists and other creater to get a fair reward, and allow them to reach new audiences, without creating negative effects on fundamental rights and freedoms. In Europe there can be no place for censorship filters.”
