Schaake joins new international Commission on cyber security

press release
Marietje

Marietje Schaake will become a member of the Global Commission on the Stability of Cyberspace (GCSC). The official launch will take place during the Munich Security Conference in February. The Commission will develop proposals to improve the safety and stability of the Internet.

Schaake: "The security of the global Internet is in the shared interest of countries, as well as businesses and internet-users. Governments and companies should take more responsibility and also cooperate. We should not get used to news about hacks and data leaks; it is high time for leadership and global standards."

The GCSC will be led by the former Estonian Foreign Minister Marina Kaljurand and is initiated by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and supported by The Hague Centre for Strategic Studies.

On January the 27th Kaljurand and Schaake will speak at the annual CPDP conference in Brussels in the panel "One week after Trump: what can we do to protect the open Internet?". Previously Schaake was also a member of the Global Commission on Internet Governance and was co-author of their final Report 'One Internet'.
