The execution of nine men in Egypt

Written Questions
Marietje

On February 20th, nine men were executed in Egypt. They are accused of the murder of public prosecutor Hisham Barakat in 2015.

Their execution took place amidst allegations, both by themselves and by Amnesty International of forced confessions through torture and unfair trials.

The EU ‘holds a strong and principled position against the death penalty in all circumstances and for all cases’.

1. Especially in the run up to the 7th World Congress Against the Death Penalty hosted by the EU next week, why has the HR/VP not condemned the execution of the nine men as well as the six others executed in Egypt in 2019 alone?
