The New Production Revolution

June 2nd, 13:45-15:15 OECD Conference Centre, Paris The New Production Revolution panel is part of the OECD Forum: Investing in the Future: People, Planet, Prosperity. Ongoing and interconnected innovation in ICT -- Big Data and the “Internet of Everything”-- nanotech, telemedicine, biotechnology, is offering promising solutions to challenges in areas such as health, ageing, climate change, food security, and represent an increasingly significant source of potential growth. Policies to stimulate this type of “knowledge-based” economic growth are high on the agenda in many countries. Past industrialisation created employment opportunities and led to higher living standards. However, the current industrial revolution is a complex one where the relationship between innovation and the creation of jobs and higher living standards is not obvious. Some of the questions that will be addressed:
  • What kind of regulatory framework is needed to support the “next production revolution”? Should it focus on stimulating knowledge sharing, supporting infrastructures and R&D or select particular sectors of the economy?
  • What can be done to ensure that the benefits of innovation do not further increase inequality?
Speakers:
  • Jacques van den Broek, CEO and Chairman of the Executive Board, Randstad
  • Vladimír Dlouhý, President, Chamber of Commerce, Czech Republic
  • Anindya Ghose, Professor, IT & Marketing; Co-Director, Center for Business Analytics, Leonard N. Stern School of Business, New York University, United States
