Written question on European arms and dual-use goods to Egypt

Marietje
To the Vice-President/High Commissioner, Federica Mogherini On 25 May, Amnesty International released a report in which it becomes clear that since 2013, thirteen EU countries have exported weapons and dual use goods to Egypt, despite an EU-wide suspension of such transfers to the country.(1) The transfers have included weapons, technologies and goods that can be used for internal repression. Over the past three years, the situation in Egypt has become ever more repressive and there are huge concerns about the rule of law and respect for human rights. 1. How do the VP/HR and the EEAS analyse the current situation and what has been done to make sure that EU member states implement the common position 2008/944/CFSP on arms exports in a coherent way vis-a-vis Egypt? 2. How will the VP/HR and the EEAS address this issue in the Council, how do they plan to hold EU member states to commitments when it comes to arms sales suspensions, embargoes and sanctions? 3. How are the VP/HR and the EEAS addressing the increasingly worrying situation concerning human rights and the rule of law in Egypt.
